Tom Williamson was on the faculty of the Civil Discovery in Virginia seminar presented in Charlottesville, Virginia on September 7, 2017. Tom presented on the topic of the discovery of experts. Tom authored the “Discovery of Experts” chapter of the popular Virginia Lawyers Practice Handbook, Civil Discovery in Virginia (2017 ed.). Tom has again updated his research and analysis of the Virginia Deadman’s Statute! The admission of evidence in a wrongful death lawsuit is subject to Virginia’s “Deadman’s Statute.” Understanding this statute is critical to determining how and what evidence will be presented at a trial where one of the parties to the incident giving rise to the litigation is deceased. Williamson Recipient of Murray Janus Professionalism Award

The John Marshall Inn of Court has named Tom Williamson as the first recipient of its Murray Janus Professionalism Award. The award is named after the late Murray Janus, a founding member of the John Marshall Inn of Court and one of the most respected lawyers of the Richmond, Virginia Bar. The Award honors its recipient for Professionalism, Mentoring and Perseverance. Tom received the Award at the annual banquet of the Inn and shared with the attendees some recollections about his interaction with Murray as a young lawyer.

Tom Williamson Chairs Boyd Graves Evidence Committee

Tom has been selected to chair the Evidence Committee of the Boyd-Graves Conference. The Committee is responsible for drafting and updating of the Guide to the Rules of Evidence in Virginia. The Guide was conceived to restate Virginia evidentiary law in a single, well organized volume to assist judges and practitioners in ascertaining the rules governing admissibility of evidence.
